Never judge a book by its cover. And ain't that be the truth! My husband and I just moved into the Brightwalk community and passed this place on the way to Noda one day. We noticed the picture menus hanging from the window and said we needed to check it out for Chinese one night. Well last night was the night. We had our doubts. From the outside and when you first walk in, Cottage does not impress- a little roughy around- But we were instantly greeted and handed menus. We got take out and placed an order of scallion crispy chicken, chicken and broccoli, crab Rangoon, and egg drop soup. We probably waited 10 minutes for our food and it was pipping hot. When we got home we could not believe how much food we had - see my pics. We easily could of split a meal together plus they came with egg rolls. Now we judge Chinese by three things: 1- egg drop soup 2- rice 3- egg roll The egg drop soup was decent. I added pepper to it and that really enhanced the flavor. The rice I really enjoyed as it had fresh chopped onion in it. It mixed really good with our chicken dishes and gave it an extra crunch and lastly the egg roll. They were huge! Very good. Nice and crispy. The chicken and broccoli sauce was great and plenty of extra to put on our rice, but the ratio from chicken to broccoli was not even. It was over flowing with broccoli, but I can't complain. It's usually the other way around! Plus the crispy scallion chicken was enough for 3 meals so we split both. The crab Rangoon was the least fav item of the night. It was decent, but more cream cheese than anything. The dipping sauce was good- save it for your egg roll! All in all I'm SO glad we tried Cottage and we will be back soon! I have a feeling it might be our next Stay in Friday night take out place! Ps- they also deliver!
I've been looking for that good "hole in a wall" Chinese restaurant, and this is it honey! The lunch special until 4pm comes with fried rice and your choice of meat (wings, general tso, etc) and an egg roll for $7 and some change. This place is really set apart from the rest because they serve brown fried rice and not yellow rice. That is a must when I'm looking for good Chinese food. Also the wings are drummettes and not whole wings which I love. It's not too far from my job, so that also made it very convenient! I'm glad I finally found what I was looking for in a Chinese place.
